Meta-Level Music
- Cyborganic team member Steve Bahcall has set up his Eyeneer Music Archives. Psychedelic icons identify several areas: Contemporary Classical composer linklopaedia, American Music is under construction, International Music has seven dryly presented essays, New Jazz has some photos and a substantial biography of Sun Ra. The distinctive feature here is his Definitive Eyeneer archives, whose sound lab dishes out the cosmic connections and tantric tunes - Steve's original work. Much of this site is awaiting a fleshout, but if you are intersted in folk, bluegrass, blues, international music, auditory odesseys, this site is worth a visit.(6/1/95)
- The Web Wide World of Music is an excellent music exploration starting point - with both a lot of links to the outside world, as well as enough entertainment at their site to keep you busy for minutes!
- If you are looking for a specific band, try their The Ultimate Band List, or TUBL for short. They use a system of cards, where each band has its own card. Each card has a list of available internet resources; FAQ, WWW pages, songs digitized online, mailing lists - every possible Internet resource is covered. And since people can add to the cards, they are up to date with the latest fan info. All of the artists they cover are listed minimally on their Tiny List
- For a test of your rock prowess, try their trivia page. Each page has ten lyric segments from rock music, gathered around a theme. There are no forms, it is not interactive, just read the quotes, see if you know the artist and title, and look up the answers on the next page. They have even provided a scoring sheet for you to evaluate yourself - so you will know how you stand in the realm of rock lyrics.
- Other features include a Music Poll about ragin' rock issues, a discussion group Mind over Music, and a page of Major Music Links

- Rock critics's collaboration Addicted to Noise covering rock culture. For the first issue, I was the Senior Editor of their On the Web page, for one issue. My inactivity lead them to find another editor, he does it a lot different than I did. The site is hip, if occasionally hard to connect to.(6/1/95)
- Formerly at CMU, now run off the vibe magzine site, the Mammoth Music Meta-List is huge, and well sorted. Search for sites by artist, genre, instrument info, lyrics and discographies. Includes a link to discussion forums for updation.(6/1/95)
- Itching for a career in the music industry? Looking for the right technical personel or equipment? The Music Industry Contact list has the info you need. Lists of labels, studios, management types, magazines, equipment, producers and more. Some of them even have e-mail and web pages!

We've all heard of Sony. They have a large collection of a broad range of musicians - browsing through their huge alphabetical listing of artists, I discovered more than a few names I was interested in. Each artist had at least some accompanying album information online, some had tour schedules and press releases, and a select few even had sound clips. If you want to really hate a band, read the hype tripe on their album pages. Often amateur artists lifted to impossible levels of craftsmanship and good citizenry. - Witness him as jpegged Jesus, there's a page surrounding the Kurt Cobain death conspiracy. A private investigator, Tom Grant, who was retained by Courtney to find Kurt a few days before he died, has continued his investigation beyond the bounds of his retainer. Read his near-veiled suspicions of most everything, especially Courtney. There may not be more to this than strung out borderline personalities with too many retainers, but conspiracies can make for enrapturing reading - especially when they concern near mythic figures and scheming she-devils. That's certainly what she's made out to be.
- Of more worth and wait is Kurt Cobain was Murdered - after a Seattle public access cable show of that name. Quicktime movies, and impressive handwriting analysis.
- Yearning for U-Laws? The list of sites with audio clips will help you find music, sounds and voice online. Listed here are sites featuring specific sounds - from films, tv shows, bands, events, etc. This is the page coordinating all online sound clip files. If you are looking for particular clip or performer, start here.
- If you just want to listen to some music, Mega's Jukebox has a couple of hard rockin' tunes in .au format online. Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Red Hot Chilis, etc.
- You've read about them in Rolling Stone, or the San Fransisco Examiner, or heard about them on CNN, check out the the Internet Underground Music Archive. A load of slick graphics and basically pioneering distribution of music over the web made this site a hot prospect, quick. It seems as though success has finally reached them (too much popularity for it not to happen) - even Warner Bros. is now distributing their stuff from this slick site. They need to pay their bills somehow. Their dream is to pioneer middle class music distribution - using the Internet to superceed the big boys. I'm glad they're popular then.

- Northwestern University's Jazz Radio Station's Jazz HTTP site. A range of archives, covering artists and music, as well as retail jazz and clubbing.
- Including some pages I composed about some of my favourite musicians, which I have not returned to edit in over a year. Look forward to further improvements:

- An exhibit of the Jazz Photography of Ray Avery includes some nice black and whites of the jazz greats (circa '50s and '60s) and has some historical and biographical info to. A slick server, to be sure.

- From Bill Hery, a listing of Jazz Clubs around the world. Check it out before you travel, of just remember the URL for when you get there!
- A Jazz/Blues anonymous FTP Site with images, lists, etc. Lots of stuff here. In addition to a few choice photos of the Jazz greats, they had a picture of Elvis and Nixon, and some other odd assorted ends.
Specific Artists and Genres
- The Hip-Hop Lyrics server in the UK has come to my aid academically. I finished up my literature of social change and revolution class by writing a paper on the visions of social change apparent in rap lyrics. I did all my feildwork for the paper by tapping into this surprisingly vast collection of songs by artist and album. No sound samples, and not everything is complete, but there's defintely a solid body of work here. Contribute some more!(6/1/95)
- I run a page about the most eloquent band of the eighties Jane's Addiction, and the further efforts of band members, including Deconstruction and Porno for Pyros. I have a few pictures and sound clips up.(6/1/95)
- There is a Zappa discography, a tribute (with a huge graphic leading it), the Black Page, that St. Alphonzo's Pancake Homepage.
- The Beastie Boys discovered their home page on the net, and they were so impressed, they encouraged the creator, Ian Rogers, to start the Music Kitchen. Now this site serves up the best in authorized content, sounds, video and pix, from the Beastie Boys's record company Grand Royal Records. The Beastie Boys, the Breeders, Redd Kross, and the Wild Colonials have pages up, with more bands to come. Rock-it Comix is on here as well - with a few selections from their rock-and-roll story comic books. A tight site, of interest to those fans of the Beastie Boys and their off-the-cuff attitude.
- Jonathan Corbet tipped me off to the Grateful Dead WWW server, and someone has put the latest Grateful Dead 1994 Tour dates and rumours information online.
- The Internet Techno/Ambient/Rave Archive Page - "the FTP/Gopher/WWW site for the anything and everything related to raves, techno music, ambient music, and just about everything related"
- Fellow Swarthmorean, (or Swarthmoron, or Swattie, depending) Justin Paulson has set up a list of Webbed Radio Stations
- For persons in the Bay area, TheList of upcoming shows in the funk-punk-thrash-ska vein is now online.
